Where is St Edmundsbury

St Edmundsbury is at the heart of the East of England, close to Cambridge and on the A14, well-placed for Stansted airport and the East Coast ports.

The borough has a rural character with two market towns, Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill. It is an attractive and unspoilt area, with a good quality of life and growing tourism industry.

St Edmundsbury is generally prosperous and is in an area of marked economic growth. The largest employment sectors are public services, manufacturing and retail/wholesale.

What do the Economic Development team do

Our aim:

 To have a prosperous and dynamic local economy.

To achieve this we:

  • create a sympathetic culture for jobs and business;
  • encourage the development of new enterprise and help existing firms to grow;
  • enhance the environment and encourage sustainable development;
  • ensure a supply of commercial sites and premises;
  • help develop the skills of the local workforce;
  • organise and deliver business events;
  • promote the economic vitality of town centres;
  • provide economic development infrastructure;
  • retain and increase the number of jobs in the area;
  • support rural and community enterprise; and
  • work with economic development partners.
