The Suffolk Tourism Partnership is working with St Edmundsbury Borough Council and commercial tourism businesses in the district to develop a range of sustainable tourism initiatives. This includes encouraging commercial tourism businesses to improve their environmental credentials and also to encourage visitors to consider their environmental impact during their visit.

Carbon Trust consumer research, carried out in October 2006, shows the views of 1159 consumers from across the UK:
74% think that businesses are not doing enough to cut their carbon emissions and tackle climate change;
64% think that their carbon footprint is important;
66% want to know the carbon footprint of the products they buy;
67% buy a product with a low carbon footprint; and
64% are more likely to use a business that claims to have a low carbon footprint.
