Do you have, or want to start, a business in one of the following wards in St Edmundsbury: Bardwell, Barningham, Fornham, Ixworth, Pakenham, Risby or Stanton? If so, you should read on!
The above wards are part of The Brecks, for which a successful bid was put in for European funding, awarded by the East of England Development Agency through the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE). This means that up to £3.3 million is available for rural development projects over the next six years from 2008.
Projects could include farm diversification, wood fuel supply chains, creating energy from waste, local use of local timber, and improvement of opportunities for community stabilisation, integration and improved rural skills.
The grant is developed through the 'Leader' approach, which brings local people and businesses together in a bottom up process to decide for themselves what the problems and challenges are for local land-based and rural enterprises in their area, then to tackle them using a combination of European money and local match funding.
