| | | | | St Edmundsbury Borough Council is committed to ensuring the highest standards of behaviour from its councillors and officers. Our Whistleblowing Policy applies to all employees of the council, contractors working for the council, the council’s partners and also those supplying goods and services to the council. As a supplier to the council you may be the first to realise that there could be something seriously wrong with the council. However, you may be reluctant, for whatever reason, to raise your concern. The purpose of the Whistleblowing Policy is to make clear that such concerns can be raised in confidence without fear of victimisation, subsequent discrimination or disadvantage. The policy aims to: - encourage you to feel confident in raising serious concerns and to question and act upon concerns;
- provide avenues for you to raise those concerns and receive feedback on any action taken;
- ensure that you receive a response to your concerns and that you are aware of how to pursue them if you are not satisfied; and
- reassure you that you will be protected from possible reprisals or victimisation if you have a reasonable belief that you have raised any concern in good faith.
The policy covers concerns about: - breaches of the council’s standing orders and policies;
- conduct which is an offence or a breach of the law;
- damage to the environment;
- disclosure related to miscarriages of justice;
- harassment;
- health and safety risks, including risks to the public as well as other employees;
- possible fraud and corruption;
- physical abuse of clients;
- sex, race or disability discrimination;
- the unauthorised use of public funds;
- anything that makes you feel uncomfortable in terms of known standards, your experience or the standards you believe the council subscribes to; or
- concealing information about any of these matters.
All concerns raised with the council will be treated in confidence and every effort will be made not to reveal the identity of the person raising the concern. Contact If you wish to report or discuss an issue of concern you should contact either: Jon Snares Audit Manager Phone: 01284 757239 |
