Heritage Open Days are a national celebration of England's cultural and architectural heritage. The event is coordinated by the Civic Trust, and involves special openings of interesting buildings. Some are not normally open to the public while others are normally open at a charge. Entry is usually free, but check to see whether you need to book in advance.
Last years Heritage open days were held between 8 - 11 September.
There was a range of walks, lectures tours and displays including guided tours of Bury St Edmunds, Clare, Ixworth, Culford School and The Norman Tower and a chance to visit some of the area's places of historic interest free of charge such as Moyse's Hall Museum, West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village, Bardwell Windmill, Fullers Mill Gardens, United Reformed Church and many more.

The Suffolk Green Buildings Network also participated in English Heritage's Open Days 2011. Among the 21 properties participating in last year's event were a solid wall Victorian cottage, a 1960s bungalow, a Tudor public building dating from about 1500, a retrofit village hall and a guest house that was once a 19th Century doctor's surgery. for more information visit: www.greensuffolk.org
