The project is a unique attraction in Bury St Edmunds providing a heritage centre, community café and guided tours; the building is a restored old maltings, which dates back to the 17th century. It contains a wealth of history and has been sympathically restored marrying together the old and new elements.
Oak beams, wooden floorboards and tiles are all original features that blend with the new oak beams and doors making it the award-winning building that it is today.
The centre offers the visitor a chance to walk around the building following information boards and viewing original artefacts which date back to the 17th century. There is a model of the maltings process and a photographic exhibition of the restoration project. The project was restored with thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, St Edmundsbury Borough Council, the Bury St Edmunds Town Trust and various other trusts, individuals and statutory sources.
