Between Friday 25 November and Sunday 27 November, the historic centre of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk was transformed into a traditional Christmas market with colourful stalls selling local produce and crafts as well as traders from around the UK and mainland Europe, traditional fairground rides and on-stage entertainment.
The Angel Hill and Abbey gardens in Bury St Edmunds, with its recently crowned cathedral, medieval Abbey Gate and links with Charles Dickens was the ideal setting for a traditional Christmas Fayre. An added attraction is the towns nearby cosmopolitan shopping centre with its great mix of famous name stores and independent shops plus cafés and restaurants galore. Visitors on Saturday and Sunday were also able to sample the delights of Bury St Edmunds provisions market while this year, the date coincides with the Cathedral's Christmas Fair and the Medieval Fayre in Moyse's Hall Museum. There was street entertainment and many stalls in the brand new public building - apex. There really was something for everyone.
New for 2011 held our Farmers Market on Sunday 27. All producers were from the Suffolk area and there was a selection of food, drink and crafts – ideal for the Christmas period.
Bury St Edmunds has good value parking close to the town centre and a park and ride operated on all three days.
Alternatively some people let the train take the strain. National Express were offering a free child ticket with every adult ticket purchased and the Beerhouse on Station Hill had it's own Beer Festival as part of the Christmas Fayre. A free souvenir beer glass was given out on production of a train tickett.
