Car parks - Bury St Edmunds

You can pay for your parking using your mobile and a credit or debit card. Find out about cashless parking.

Parking:

  • Wednesdays and Saturdays are market days and are the busiest days of the week.
  • 11am in the morning is the busiest time of day.
  • The busiest times on the roads are 8.30am to 9am and 5pm to 5.30pm on weekdays.
  • All the car parks are within ten minutes walk of the town centre, but the short-stay car parks are closer than the long-stay ones.
  • The nearest car park available when visiting the apex or Arc is the Cattlemarket car park.
  • Ram Meadow car park is closest to the main visitor attractions of the town, whilst the car parks on the west side of the town are closest to the main shopping areas.
  • If you are having problems finding somewhere to park, go to Ram Meadow or the decked car park on Parkway, as these nearly always have spaces available.
  • The car park entry signs give our terms and conditions of use, charges and all the information you need to park.
  • Please be aware that our car park ticket machines do not give change.

Angel Hill parkingPlease note:

  • all car parks are pay and display;
  • you can look at the notices on the car park ticket machines for latest information;
  • car park charges correct from 4 April 2011;
  • blue badge holders may use the blue badge spaces provided in most car parks or can use any other parking bay as long as they display their blue badges in the windscreen; and
  • excess car parking charges can be paid online, at any Post Office or Payzone outlet or by direct debit. For more information see our How to pay page.

Motorcycle parking - there are special motorcycle bays provided in some car parks and parking areas in the town centre - please see the table below for more information. These areas allow motorcycle parking without charge and there is no need to purchase or display a pay and display ticket. If however you choose to park within a standard parking bay in a car park you are expected to buy a pay and display ticket at the same cost as a car. We understand the challenges in displaying a pay and display ticket on a motorcycle but recommend that you buy a ticket, write your motorcycle's registration number on the ticket and then display the ticket in the tax disc holder so that it can be clearly viewed by a car park attendant.

The distribution of promotional literature in St Edmundsbury Borough Council controlled car parks is not allowed and is in contravention of Clause 15 of the Traffic Order governing the car parks. In particular flyers put under windscreen wipers and similar practises is not allowed. We will apply a charge to the distributor or agent to remove these from cars and to litter pick the entire area.

Excess parking charges (parking fines) for all off-street and on-street car parking is currently set at £70 with a reduced charge of £30 if paid within 14 days. Payment can be made online, at any Post Office or PayZone outlet or by direct debit. For more information see our How to pay page.
