Dear Claudine and Mark,
I read your letter in the east Anglian Daily Time on Wednesday this week, and I thought that I would drop you a few lines about myself.
First of all I belong to the Bury St Edmunds branch of the Normandy Veteran Association, and have been with them from when it was formed. We started with about 90 members but unfortunately we are now down to only about 30 or so members now.
I myself landed on the beaches on D-Day 6 of June, which was Sword Beach. I was lucky to go on to the end of the war. I was wounded in Holland and was in hospital for about 3 weeks. Then back with the division, just in time for the Rhine crossing.
I am also a member of Market Garden and visit Holland every year in September with other old soldiers and some with their wives, we stop in a nice hotel just outside of Nimwegen, which is just a few miles away.
I really enjoy seeing my old comrades every year, we were very close in those days!!
Anyway, I just thought that I would drop both of you a few lines, hoping you can understand my writing! I hope you are both well and enjoying your time in this country of ours.
Best wishes to you both.
Yours sincerely,
Bob Stacing
