Even though BurySOUND has an overall winner, the aim of the competition is much more about developing the talent of young people within St Edmundsbury.
The quality of entries for this year's competition has been excellent and there was a real battle for the winning prize.
BurySOUND winners - Cure Caballo
Two bands from each of the two heats held at the Corn Exchange, Bury St Edmunds, went through to the final on 20 November. The audience vote was very close and after considerable deliberation the judges announced the winners as Cure Caballo.
The winning prize was £250 vouchers for music store Soundsplus, two days recording at The Shrubbery Café and Recording Studios, and 100 CD duplication provided by Infallible Duplication. The winners also have the opportunity to launch next year's competition. The runner-up band has won recording sessions at West Suffolk College. All bands entering received vouchers for Soundsplus and a session at the Rehearsal Rooms.

BurySOUND Final review by Jamie Winters
With four of Suffolk's Finest competing for the title of BurySOUND 09 Winners, it was a close call. Having the biggest turn-out of the event it only added to the electric atmosphere of the night and making the decision for the judges even harder. Hookers' Green started the night with their ever popular cover of The Chain by Fleetwood Mac and their own personal hit, Isabella. Cure Caballo were up next giving the audience a seamless performance of Predators, Salvation Is... and many more of their crowd-moving hits leaving the audience sweaty yet satisfied. Third to the stage and getting the crowd even sweatier were local hard-rockers, Not Until Tomorrow. With Old Men Die In New Suits and Kill The Sounds sending the crowd mental and then just to impress that little bit more, one of the best covers of I Gotta Feeling. Used To Be Blonde finished the night on a good note with their energetic performance followed by a short but sweet improvised jam at the end.
The votes from the audience were very close between each act, giving the deciding vote to the judges. There was a very anxious ten minutes for all the bands, judges and fans as votes were cast, withdrawn, then re-cast. All the bands gave it their all on the night but one band gave it that little bit more, taking the home the trophy as well as a whole lot more fans were Cure Caballo.
BurySOUND Heat 2 review by Jamie Winters
With a different judging panel and new musical atmosphere from the previous heat, predicting the outcome was near impossible.
Being first band on stage is never an easy task but with their musical skills and saved by good nerves, Hookers Green rocked the crowd and judges with their very own brand of 'Funkalicious Metal'. With a brilliant performance they rightly deserved being put through to the finals.
Next to the stage were Lars and The Howling. Taking on a more rock sound as opposed to their favoured folk sound seemed to be a good idea, yet proving to be their downfall.
Moving the crowd the most with less head-banging and more jumping were Used to be Blonde with their cover of a well known Wombats song, getting through to the final with flying colours. Vide Infra admittedly got the crowd moving the most, but those who weren't throwing themselves about were sitting around. Not being everyone's cup of tea with a very heavy rock sound to them, they didn't get my vote.
The illusive Waxing Captors were last to take to the stage, but with not many people seeming to know that much about them, winning the audience over was certainly going to be a difficult task. With the mosh pit dwindling in numbers and the crowds losing interest quicker than the band could play, it was never a recipe for success.
With the final in two weeks its going to be constant rehearsals for the bands.

BurySOUND Heat 1 review by Emma Outridge
It being its twelfth year running, with a killer launch party earlier this year, the expectations were high. With a line up consisting of Suffolk's finest up and coming bands, the night will be looked upon fondly by many.
Starting the night were a Thurston based band Not Until Tomorrow. The lead singer only being a band member for seven weeks, they had a rough road. Giving an energy-filled performance of insanely fast riffs and baseline that will stick in your head, they are appearing in the finals in four weeks time. Second to the stage was classic rock four piece from Diss, Walkway, starting off as a brothers' passion for music snowballing into being one of Diss' most talked about bands.
Cure Caballo took to the stage playing a mixture of alternative and hard rock, accompanied by a small army of fans, they were surprisingly not optimistic about winning. Taking the judges vote then getting into the final was a pleasant surprise. Fourth on the stage was the newest band there. Protect The Target got all of the crowd moving, even the security guards were seen to be doing some foot tapping. Ending the night on a high was the newly formed Amberlight. Sadly two rehearsals wasn't enough to get them through.
The second heat on Friday 6 November with the likes of Hookers Green and Used to be Blonde, its going to be a hard decision for the judges and the audience.
Heat 1 saw Cure Caballo and Not Until Tomorrow secure their place in the Final on 20 November.
BurySOUND Launch Party review by Emma Outerbridge
"Back for its twelfth year and set to be more successful than the last, BurySOUND launch party was not something to miss. With last years winning act Head-Full playing and also two other bands, The Empires and Alloy Ark, not forgetting the DJ, Reuben Kemp it was a very good night.
"Starting it off was Alloy Ark, a very innocent looking and sounding two piece. With songs such as Rub-a-dub-dub you cant help but love them. Second to take to the stage was The Empires. These guys probably being the most ‘senior’ band there, but they certainly know how to get the crowd going. They also had probably the best image of the night, with the guitarist having hair cross between Russell Brand and Tim Minchin. Last up were last years winners Head-Full, now they really got the crowd going, with everyone jumping and screaming the lyrics very loudly. They are very very good for their age and have a unique style of playing with the guitarist having his guitar almost as high as Mark King. Filling in between acts was Reuben Kemp, playing 60’s tracks with a modern twist, very unique also and had the coolest hat of the night.
"When it was sadly time to go, flyers, stickers, CD’s and t-shirts were being handed out, but also 7 inch singles, a very nice thought, although quite a few people probably didn’t know what they were, still. So all in all it was a really great night and with a launch party as good as this, the acts in the heats will sure have a lot to live up to."
