At the top of the avenue of lime and horse-chestnut trees stood The Coupals, a large Victorian house, home to the Gurteen family.
The family owned and farmed much of the surrounding land which, together with their clothing factory in the town, provided a major source of local employment.
Latterly a home for elderly people, The Coupals was demolished as a result of fire damage and has been replaced with a new private dwelling.
The avenue, which once would have seen horse-drawn carriages making their way up to the big house, is now busy with the sound of nesting rooks in spring.
