The apex has received second place in the 2011 Woods Awards category Commercial and Public Access. The awards show a mark of excellence using wood in design and architecture.
The apex and arc have won the highly acclaimed 2011 Royal Institute of British Architects Award for the eastern region. Some of the criteria that the judges looked for were design, size, style, location and social factors.
Following extensive building work over three years, the new venue in Bury St Edmunds, the apex, situated in the arc shopping centre in the heart of the town, opened its doors for the first time on 8 October 2010.
Hosting a variety of music, entertainment and corporate events, the apex offers the local community entertainment and the wider environs a unique and exciting space from which visitors to West Suffolk can see a great selection of artists and bands. From classical music to pop, rock, jazz, blues, world, country and folk to comedy, the apex will deliver a truly diverse programme throughout the year. The venue also plans to offer free events at various times in the year and will open daily on non event days for visitors to enjoy a coffee and relax in its beautiful surroundings.

The apex is a 500 seat or 750 standing (in the main auditorium) multi-purpose venue with various studio rooms and an array of flexible spaces available to hire suitable for various activities including meetings, product launches, exhibitions, conferences and banqueting.
