If you continue along the railway from Sturmer Meadow you can see to the left remains of derelict osier beds.
These beds were once used to produce willow by a Haverhill firm of basket makers.
Some of the old stumps, known as stools, are still managed by the park rangers and when cut back can produce six or more feet of new growth in a season.
This undisturbed area is a regular haunt of shy bullfinches.
Muntjac deer can sometimes be seen here, particularly early in the morning.
