The Bury in Bloom campaign, founded in 1986, is responsible for Bury St Edmunds' status as one of the country’s foremost Floral Towns. A walk through town, particularly during the summer months, leaves no doubt in people’s minds that this accolade is well and truly earned.

Bury St Edmunds is current holder of the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society’s Silver Gilt award for the Britain in Bloom Best Large Town/Small City in the United Kingdom as well as the Gold winner of the Anglia in Bloom trophy for Best Large Town in East Anglia in 2010.

Bury St Edmunds did not take part in the Anglia in Bloom competition for 2011 but celebrated with Bury In Bloom's 25 birthday.

First famous for its magnificent hanging baskets and town centre displays, today’s Bury in Bloom has grown to embrace the whole Bury St Edmunds community. Floral and environmental projects involving the very young, school students, the elderly, businesses, allotments holders, churches and more, are instigated and supported by the Bury in Bloom Executive.

Funds for the campaign are raised from the corporate sector, the Town Council and Town Centre Management.  Practical help and advice is provided by St Edmundsbury Borough Council, through its Parks and Grounds Maintenance Departments, and by the management of the world famous Abbey Gardens and many other floral features in and around the town centre.
