| June 2006 Information point comes to town As work starts in the Cattle Market car park to make the site ready for development, an information point will be on site next week to answer your queries. The idea is to keep people informed of what is going on now, to hand out leaflets about car parking and routes into town, and to answer questions people may have about the new development. For more information email communications@stedsbc.gov.uk Shopmobility sure to score The town’s Shopmobility scooter scheme is set for success now that St Edmundsbury has invested a further £10,000 to buy seven new mobility scooters and has extended the availability to seven days a week over the summer. The scheme operates from the Tourist Information Centre at Angel Hill and staff will have a stand at the Cornhill Walk Shopping Centre on Monday 19 June where people can find out more about the scheme and scooters. It’s a perfect way to get round the town for anyone who has difficulty walking. For more information call Shopmobility on 01284 757175. Prospect Row temporary closure Prospect Row is due to close to traffic for three weeks from 26 June while work takes place to lay electricity cables. Access to the Prospect Row car park will be from Parkway and diversion signs will be in place. The route will remain open to cyclists and pedestrians and to people who live along the road. Recycling bins on the move The recycling bins on Prospect Row will be re-homed to another town centre car park when the cabling work begins. We will let you know where they have moved to as soon as it is agreed. Please carry on recycling! Kings Road Changes Suffolk County Council has just agreed £110,000 funding to make Kings Road a one-way street running from St Andrews St South to Prospect Row. This will make it safer for pedestrians as the pavements will be wider. The changes should be in place by the time construction work starts in October. Fancy a day out? The Tourist Information Centre (TIC) has just produced this year’s ‘Summertime Specials’ excursions leaflet with details of coach trips from Bury St Edmunds this summer. Pick up a copy from the TIC on Angel Hill or call 01284 764667. Looking for a conference venue? The TIC has also produced a leaflet on meeting rooms and conference venues in and around the town. The leaflet is available from the TIC at Angel Hill or call 01284 764667. | Diary of dates A programme of works has been drawn up for key stages of the Cattle Market development. Hoarding around Hanchet House October December Town Centre Partnership Since the recent retirement of Nick Martin, our Town Centre Manager, St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Bury St Edmunds Town Council and private businesses (represented by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry) have forged a formal partnership to look at how they can best work together to benefit the town. Jim Brady, Chairman of the Town Centre Management Group, is busy putting together a new Management Board and a group of Town Centre Management Associates as well as recruiting a new Town Centre Manager. In the meantime, work in the town has continued with events such as the flower and continental market, which has raised funds for future town centre promotions, and Bury in Bloom.
