River Island comes to town

River Island is the latest retailer to sign up to the Cattle Market development and will be taking a corner unit near HMV.

The fashion store is new to Bury St Edmunds but has over 200 shops in the UK and is one of the country's largest and most successful privately owned companies.

The added attraction of the new shops in the Cattle Market development will help to keep local shoppers from travelling to other towns, benefiting existing retailers too.

Meeting and greeting

We’ve been out and about in the Cattle Market car park handing out leaflets and chatting to people about the new development.

We showed images of the new development and spoke to over 5000 motorists to tell them about available parking spaces around the town as we’re heading towards the start of construction work. There’s already been a significant increase in the use of the decked car park which shows this has obviously worked.

More information will be available in the coming months from a range of outlets in the town centre.

Getting things ready

A lot of work is being carried out in the Cattle Market area to make the site ready for the contractor to take over in October.

Temporary fencing will be put up as work moves around the car park, so apologies for any inconvenience. We are doing our best to keep as many spaces open for as long as possible.

Other work planned for the next few weeks includes dismantling the Roundhouse - each piece will be numbered and stored ready so it can be rebuilt in the future.

Transport strategy coming soon

The transport strategy for the town is almost completed and should be ready to release with the next issue of the Town Centre News. Watch this space!
