October 2006 Car park re-opens temporarily The Cattle Market car park reopens temporarily on Saturday 21 October. The aim is to keep as many spaces open for as long as possible, so these spaces will be available until the hoardings go up later this year. Bury St Edmunds lovers Residents and visitors have been pledging their love for the town since the new 'Bury St Edmunds lover' campaign was launched last month. Lovers young and old have been posing with huge yellow hearts and a competition has been running to find out the three things people love most about Bury St Edmunds. Prizes include a luxury night in a four-poster bed with dinner and champagne donated by the Angel Hotel, a year’s worth of free films from Cineworld, and six months’ free parking in town. The campaign was launched by St Edmundsbury Borough Council to promote the town centre and support local businesses. Royal Mail opens new office Bury St Edmunds’ postmen and women are now operating from a brand new multi-million pound delivery office in Skyliner Way, on Moreton Hall. The new site is located on one floor – better for a modern and efficient mail | operation – with an improved customer callers’ facility and parking. All Royal Mail staff are being transferred to the new building and there will be no changes to deliveries. Ambassadors appointed Shops and businesses throughout Bury St Edmunds have nominated members of their staff to become ambassadors for the town as construction work for the Cattle Market development starts. Around 200 ambassadors attended the first meeting, which was funded by St Edmundsbury Borough Council and the Cattle Market developers, Centros Miller. Among them were shop assistants, receptionists, bar staff, accommodation providers, leisure attendants, librarians and others. Information packs and promotional materials have also been handed out to around 200 shops throughout the town centre. If any shop or business wants an ambassador pack please contact Marianne Hulland, 01284 757034. New toilets The new toilets are now open at Risbygate Street carpark, off Nelson Road. The accessible toilet is RADAR key operated and these are available from the borough council offices at Angel Hill. |
Motorhomes made welcome Ram Meadow car park now has five dedicated spaces for motorhome users. The spaces, which are extra wide and long, have been specially marked out and are only a short walk from the main town. An all day stay is charged at £1.20, there are no height restrictions at the site and public toilets lie close-by. St Edmundsbury is the first council in Suffolk to provide specialist motorhome spaces and it is hoped that this will encourage more tourists to the town. | Charity Christmas cards The Tourist Information Centre will be playing host to ‘Cards for Good Causes’ charity Christmas card shop from 11 October – 18 December. communications@stedsbc.gov.uk |
