| Issue 16 18 July 2005 Town centre roads - your views Town centre roads exhibition: Corn Exchange, Thursday 21 July, 2pm to 8pm. St Edmundsbury is staging a one-day exhibition focusing on three town centre roads and asking for ideas about how they can be improved. The roads involved are Kings Road, St Andrews Street South and Risbygate Street. Apart from ideas, we're also looking for advice on what people see as the problems in these areas and any suggested solutions. We will then look at the feasibility of these ideas and see what practical designs can be put into place when funding is available. Looking at Kings Road, the idea is to make it one way, provide a cycle route and widen the pavements. In St Andrews Street South we will be working with the Cattle Market developer, Centros Miller, on designs for this area. Centros Miller will be funding the detailed design and construction in this street. In Risbygate Street the aim is to look at ways to improve servicing to shops and homes, parking and generally enhance the area further. The exhibition is open to everyone with an interest in the town. Visitors will be able to see plans showing the existing roads, historical usage of these areas, where the conservation areas link in and some concepts drawn up to give people ideas about the scope of the project and encourage discussion. Council staff will be on hand throughout the exhibition to answer any questions. If you are unable to get to the exhibition but would like to add your comments, or find out more information, please email engserv@stedsbc.gov.uk *********************************** | No surprises so far! The first hole was bored on the Cattle Market car park last week. No surprises so far - apparently it's chalk, chalk and more chalk! Archaeological investigations are starting this week. The first part of the car park closed off for the investigations was due to reopen on 21 July but it now looks as if this will be delayed for a few days - it should be open again by the middle of next week. The delay doesn't have any effect on the rest of the closure schedule - maps showing when various areas of the car park are closed are on the pay and display machines and on the security fencing. *********************************** Free lightbulbs and advice A display on Angel Hill on Wednesday 27 July will have free energy-efficient lightbulbs and information about healthy homes grants for St Edmundsbury residents. Up to £3000 is available for minor repairs, home security and safety and energy efficiency.
