RECYCLE YOUR BLUE BIN WASTE AT THIS YEARS HAVERHILL SHOW

29 June, 2004

St Edmundsbury Borough Council will continue to spread the word about recycling this weekend, when the Recycling Roadshow visits the Haverhill Show on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 July.

In addition to finding out more about making the most of the various recycling schemes in the borough, visitors to the show will also be able to take the opportunity to recycle their cans, plastics, paper and cardboard at the show, by using the blue bins being supplied by St Edmundsbury Borough Council.

The St Edmundsbury Recycling Roadshow will be on the Recreation Ground from 10am until 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, where members of the Waste Management team will be on hand to talk to visitors about any queries they may have about the blue and brown bin recycling schemes.

Councillor Jeremy Farthing, St Edmundsbury Cabinet member for the Environment said:

The Roadshow is a fantastic way for people to find out more about the blue and brown bin recycling schemes as well as encouraging more people to recycle. I’m sure that everyone would agree that we should continue to recycle more household waste which in turn reduces the amount going to landfill.“

Each year councils in Suffolk spend more than £20 million collecting and disposing of household waste when at least 60% could be recycled. While St Edmundsbury Borough Council has exceeded its statutory recycling target of 33% for 2003/4, we still need to recycle more and one way of achieving this is to raise public awareness of recycling through initiatives such as the Recycling Roadshow.
