Share your views on Clare and Haverhill’s conservation areas

31 March, 2008

St Edmundsbury Borough Council is asking for people’s views on three draft documents which will be used to help protect the special nature of the conservation areas in Clare and Haverhill.

The council has drafted character appraisals and management plans for the Clare conservation area and the Hamlet Road and Queen Street conservation areas in Haverhill. The documents have been drawn up in line with English Heritage guidelines to identify the characteristics which make the conservation areas special places worth protecting. They will also be used to help guide future development.

You can view the draft documents at the council’s offices in Western Way and Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds, and Lower Downs Slade in Haverhill, the libraries in High Street, Clare, and Camps Road, Haverhill, and on St Edmundsbury’s website.

Anyone who has any questions about them can also go along to drop-in sessions on Monday, 14 April in the Town Hall, Market Hill, Clare, and Friday, 18 April in the foyer of the Council Office in Lower Downs Slade, Haverhill. The council’s conservation officers will be on hand to talk through the appraisals and answer any queries between 12 noon and 7pm on both of these days.

The consultation runs from Tuesday 1 to Monday 28 April. Anyone wishing to comment in writing should send their views to the Conservation Team, Environment Directorate, St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Western Way, Bury StEdmunds, IP33 3YS. Alternatively, people can email chris.leveson@stedsbc.gov.uk

All of the comments we receive will be summarised and reported to a future council meeting. St Edmundsbury will then adopt the amended documents as planning guidance.
