Nowton Park needs Friends!

30 July, 2008

More than 300,000 people visit NowtonPark in Bury St Edmunds each year – but would you like to become one of its official ‘friends’?

The park already has a strong team of volunteers who help to improve the landscape, but a new Friends of Nowton Park group would have a direct say in helping to shape its future.

They could get involved in the popular Country Fair which is held each June, apply for extra funding for new projects and help to decide how facilities could be improved.

Cllr Lynsey Alexander, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Sport, said:

“This is an opportunity to become more involved in the development of this much-loved park, to ensure that we are servicing all the needs of the community. We like to work closely with the people who use our services and a dynamic ‘friends’ group will help us with suggestions, feedback and long-term planning for NowtonPark.”

Anyone interested in joining the Friends of Nowton Park should contact John Smithson, Parks Development Manager, on 01284 757092 or email john.smithson@stedsbc.gov.uk
