Photo/ film/ interview opportunity: 12.15pm, Monday 3 September at Ehringshausen Way, Haverhill. Representatives from St Edmundsbury, Citygrove Securities and BDB Design Build Ltd hold a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the new multiplex cinema.
The first foundations for Haverhill’s multiplex cinema will be dug during a groundbreaking ceremony organised to celebrate the start of construction work on the £10 million scheme.
Contractor BDB Design Build Ltd moved onto site at the end of August and has been carrying out initial preparatory work since. On Monday, representatives from St Edmundsbury, Cineworld and Citygrove Securities Plc, which are working jointly on the project, will join them for a small groundbreaking ceremony in Ehringshausen Way.
Cllr John Griffiths, Council Leader, said:
“There is a lot happening, and these are exciting times, in Haverhill and this ceremony marks another important step forward. I’m sure everyone in the town and the surrounding areas will keep a close eye on work as it progresses and, like me, will enjoy using the whole complex once construction and fit out have been completed.”
The exciting scheme will see a five-screen cinema, three retail and restaurant units and a drive-through built on land next to the leisure centre. More than 400 car parking spaces will also be created, along with environmental enhancements to improve the area. KFC, Subway, Prezzo and Frankie & Benny’s will fill the retail/ restaurant units.
Work on the complex, which will provide 110 new jobs, will be complete by August 2008.
