Two special workshops designed to give residents the chance to help shape the borough's future growth over the next twenty years have been organised in Haverhill and Bury St Edmunds.
The evening sessions will give people the chance to discuss the Local Development Framework (LDF), which will eventually give details of the distribution of around 7500 new homes and jobs to go with them.
St Edmundsbury is currently carrying out a consultation on five different options for future growth, which will all be discussed at the workshops. These options are to concentrate the new development:
- in the borough's main towns and larger villages;
- in the main towns and not the rural areas;
- in Haverhill, expanding it into the county's fourth largest town;
- in the towns but with more development in the rural areas; or
- in a freestanding new "settlement" of at least 3000 homes, which will also provide new jobs, services and community facilities.
Combinations of these options or any other ideas people may have will also be discussed at the workshops, which take place:
- at 7pm – 9pm on Wednesday 9 April in Bury St Edmunds; and
- at 7pm – 9pm on Monday, 14 April in Haverhill.
Anyone who wants to come to a workshop will need to book their place by phoning 01284 757368 during office hours. Anyone who wants to view and comment on the LDF can do so through the council's website until 25 April.
