People surfing the World Wide Web can now enjoy a bird’s eye view of the biggest building project Bury St Edmunds has seen for decades after a special camera was installed to map progress on the Cattle Market redevelopment.
The new webcam will give people a unique insight into what is taking place and when, and will provide them with the perfect chance to keep an eye on how the scheme is developing. From the camera’s fixed position, surfers will be able to observe all the machinery, excavators and tower cranes which are currently filling the site. As the project progresses, they will see the mixed use development of shops, an underground car park, public building, residential flats and a Debenhams department store gradually take shape before their eyes ahead of the scheme’s opening in spring 2009.
Cllr John Griffiths, Council Leader, said:
“This webcam gives people the opportunity to see the development progress from a uniquely different angle. It will also provide a world wide audience with the chance to take a close look at work on a huge building project – and all from the comfort of their own homes. Everyone with an interest in Bury St Edmunds should be able to keep a regular check on the webcam and take the opportunity to watch our town’s heart grow.”
The webcam has been funded by Taylor Woodrow Construction and installed by St Edmundsbury. It is fixed in one position and cannot be moved. It can be accessed through the www.moreheart.info website, which is hosted by developer Centros Miller.
