The closing date for consultation into whether dogs on the Haverhill recreation ground should be kept on leads is Friday 7 July.
Residents in surrounding roads sent a petition to St Edmundsbury Borough Council asking for a ‘Dogs on Lead Order’ to be made. The process requires public consultation, which began with a public notice in local press. Officers have been out talking to dog owners and distributing leaflets explaining what is proposed.
Richard Whitehead, Environmental Health Manager explains:
"The petition voiced concern about dogs running loose. The recreation is used by lots of people, including children in the fenced off play area. The dog owners we have spoken to, in the main, seem to support the idea of keeping their dogs on the lead. We would like to hear from anyone else with an opinion so we can decide whether to make the order. Once the consultation is closed, we will look at what people have told us and come to our decision."
