Kings Road in Bury St Edmunds is to close temporarily while work takes place to widen pavements and resurface the carriageway.
The road will close between its junctions with St Andrews Street South and Prospect Row. Work is due to begin on Tuesday, 1 April and will take up to 12 weeks to complete.
The work has been arranged to make the experimental one-way traffic restriction, introduced on the road last year, permanent. It will also see a contraflow cycle lane introduced.
Diversions will be put in place but the road will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists throughout the closure.
A second closure, for up to four weeks, is planned for later in the month. From Monday, 28 April, the section of Kings Road between the junctions with Parkway and Yeomanry Yard will be closed when a crane is put into the road to work on a neighbouring development.
Diversions will be put in place and the road will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists.
