People in St Edmundsbury will be able to resume use of the outdoor facilities at Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre from today, following the fire on Monday 20 September.
The all-weather pitch and athletics track have reopened and are available between Monday and Friday, as there is limited access please phone 01284 753496 for more information. A programme of leisure activities is also being set up at sites across the borough, giving people the opportunity to access alternative facilities whilst the building is closed. More detail will be available over the coming weeks at www.stedmundsbury.gov.uk or by phoning the above number.
The leisure centre received significant damage during the fire and it is anticipated that it will be closed for the foreseeable future. Investigations are still being carried out into the cause of the fire and extent of the damage.
Cllr Terry Clements, Cabinet member for Leisure and Sport, said:
“It is devastating that this has happened and we are now doing our all we can to ensure that we bring a variety sports to as many people as possible during the closure of the leisure centre.”
