HOME SECURITY AVAILABLE FROM ST EDMUNDSBURY BOROUGH COUNCIL

22 January, 2004

People living in St Edmundsbury can take advantage of a wide range of home security measures, thanks to an initiative launched last year by St Edmundsbury Borough Council.

The scheme, which forms part of the Healthy Homes Project between the Borough Council and Suffolk Police and is supported by the St Edmundsbury Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, offers a wide range of security services to help people feel safe and secure in their own homes.

The aim of the scheme is to reduce the number of burglaries and prevent crime by bogus callers by encouraging members of the public to be more security conscious.

Owner occupiers, private and housing association tenants can all apply if they are over the age of 60. People who are under 60 and in receipt of Income Support, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit are also eligible.

There is no charge for householders who qualify and they can get a wide range of equipment to suit their needs, which includes locks for doors, windows and sheds, door chains, doors viewers and smoke alarms. The equipment will be fitted by accredited security professionals.

To apply for an application form, please contact St Edmundsbury Borough Council on 01284 757053.
