Queen Street traders have been consulted on a scheme to provide grants for improving shop fronts in Haverhill’s main thoroughfare, which is to be discussed at a meeting of the Haverhill Area Working party on Thursday 23 April.
The consultation revealed that there will be a strong uptake for the St Edmundsbury Borough Council funded scheme, due to be launched shortly after the major Queen Street improvement programme begins in May.
Creating an attractive shopping environment is a key part of the Haverhill Town Centre master plan, and when Tesco opens this autumn, Queen Street will become an important pedestrian link between the main shopping area and the new superstore.
Cllr Anne Gower, Chair of the Haverhill Partnership and member of the Haverhill Area Working Party said,
“Queen Street has an intimate character that will be lifted by the public realm improvements, but more is needed to encourage shoppers to explore. We have been working with traders so that the scheme works both for them and to the benefit of the area as a whole and I am very pleased that it is receiving so much support.”
