The Chief Executive of St Edmundsbury Borough Council has picked up her OBE from BuckinghamPalace after receiving the recognition in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Deborah Cadman travelled to London with her family Tuesday to collect the honour, which she has been given just four years after becoming a chief executive for the first time. The OBE was awarded in recognition of her service to local government.
Deborah said:
“I was very proud to receive the honour, which I feel recognises the contribution everyone at St Edmundsbury has made to the council’s successes. This would not have been achieved without the enthusiasm and commitment of both staff and councillors, who all work extremely hard for the benefit of the entire borough.”
Deborah joined St Edmundsbury from the Audit Commission in 2002. Since then she has been responsible for a major corporate management restructure, which has transformed in the way the council works, with the emphasis on across-the-board corporate support for major projects. These currently include the £100 million Cattle Market project in Bury St Edmunds and a £10 million pump-priming investment in Haverhill. The council is also recognised at regional and national level for its work on an innovative Public Service Village, set to provide joined-up services from a range of partners on one St Edmundsbury-owned site.
Before joining the Audit Commission, Deborah worked at the London Borough of Newham, Birmingham City Council and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council. She has three degrees, is married to South Norfolk District Council Chief Executive Geoff Rivers and has two children.
