Bury St Edmunds is set to dazzle this Christmas thanks to a free Christmas tree being provided by Rougham Estate. The tree is being handed over to Bury St Edmunds on Friday 19 November and will take centre stage in all its illuminated glory on Angel Hill. Along with all the other Christmas lights it is sure to add to the glow of the town centre this festive season.
Leader of the Council, Cllr John Griffiths said:
“There has been lots of talk in the media that Bury St Edmunds would lack the sparkle of lights this Christmas. The Town Mayor and myself reassured residents and visitors that Bury St Edmunds will glow this Christmas as it is does every year and here we are turning on the Christmas tree lights. We’ve pulled out all the stops for this year’s display and it shows what you can do when everyone pulls together. I’d like to thank all concerned, especially Rougham Estate for kindly supplying us with Christmas trees this year.”
Melvin Cocksedge, Estate Manager at Rougham Estate said:
“We are delighted to contribute to the Christmas festivities in the town as part of our celebration of Christmas at Blackthorpe Barn.”
Rougham Estate will also be supplying Christmas trees for the rest of the town centre, which we received for a reduced price this year thanks to a special deal.
We will be flicking the switch on all the lights in the town including the tree on Thursday 25 November. This year it is set to be an extra special event, so why not come along and enjoy a great night out. The fun-packed evening includes a dramatic laser display from Laser Innovations in Haverhill, on-stage entertainment from 6-8pm as well as the usual fairground rides and attractions. The event heralds the start of Thursday late night shopping when the shops will be open until 9pm.
