Help the environment and save cash

17 October, 2006

Shoppers in Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill will be given the chance to help the environment while saving cash during two special events organised to mark Energy Saving Week.

On Wednesday, 25 October, staff from St Edmundsbury will be handing out free low energy light bulbs, stickers and balloons from an exhibition stand in the Cornhill Walk Shopping Centre in Bury St Edmunds. A wealth of information will be available explaining how you can save energy, reduce carbon dioxide emissions and help prevent climate change.

Anyone who visits the stall will also be given the chance to fill in a home energy check form. The Energy Saving Trust will then use the information provided to advise on measures which could help you save up to £300 each year from your fuel bills.

Information will also be available about a Council Tax scheme launched earlier this year, which gives residents the chance to receive a £50 credit if they take up the offer of discounted cavity wall insulation through British Gas.

On Thursday, 26 October, shoppers in Haverhill will be able to claim their free bulb as the stall moves to the town’s Market Square. All of the same information and advice will be available at the stand, which will be housed in a blue gazebo.

Both stalls will run between 9am and 5pm.
