Children from 12 schools in Bury St Edmunds and students from West Suffolk College have been busy preparing 80 panels ready for when construction begins on the Cattle Market site.
St Edmundsbury launched the project in April to encourage local students to get involved with the new development by having their art work on display. Pupils have been working during the summer term to produce panels with themes linked to the town, past and present. Now that the panels are completed, they are being collected before being photographed for use in display materials, with the best of them going up on hoardings around the site.
John Griffiths, Leader of St Edmundsbury Borough Council, said:
“We’ve been delighted with the enthusiasm from local schools who have taken part and come up with some fantastic designs for us to display later this year. These panels will certainly brighten up the hoarding for all our residents and visitors to the town and I send my thanks to everyone who has helped with the project.”
Madeleine Earnshaw, a teacher from Riverwalk School, said:
“The children at our school have really enjoyed working on the panels and are very excited at the prospect of seeing them on display in town. It is a great opportunity for our pupils and we are glad to be part of such an exciting community project.”
