St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s Tourism Services has recently designed and produced a cycle route map from Bury St Edmunds to Pakenham Water Mill. ‘Pedal to Pakenham for a Picnic’, is aimed at the leisure/weekend cyclist who may like a short ride to a very picturesque location. The distance is also ideal for families.
Whilst the main attractions at Pakenham Water Mill are the corn being ground and the mill building itself, the grounds are equally attractive. And after a seven mile bike ride what could be better than a picnic and a spot of pond dipping? There is also a countryside walk along the riverbank. The map should provide all the ingredients for a great day in the country.
On Thursday 19 May, the Bury St Edmunds Tourism Group is holding a meeting at the mill. Some of them, together with volunteers from the mill, have decided to cycle from the Bury St Edmunds Tourist Information Centre (TIC) on Angel Hill, to the mill - thereby officially launching the route. They will leave the TIC, some of them on vintage bikes, at 9am and hopefully reach the mill by 10–10.15am. The group will be led by St Edmundsbury’s Tourism Manager, Justin Wallace, who designed the map.

Notes for editors
You are most welcome to send a reporter to join them on the ride, or if that doesn’t appeal, there will be an ideal photo opportunity when the riders reach the mill. For more information on the ride or route, please contact Justin Wallace on 01284 757 094 or email justin.wallace@stedsbc.gov.uk
