Roads throughout Bury St Edmunds will be closed overnight during September and October for resurfacing works to be carried out. Businesses and residents who may be affected by any disruption will be warned in advance of the work.
24/25 September, A14 eastern interchange (Moreton Hall): Work starts 9pm Saturday night closing slip roads on and off the A14. Diversions will be signed. Work is scheduled to finish around lunchtime on Sunday but may go on later f necessary. Traffic can continue travelling north/south at this interchange, but there will be traffic controls and may be delays. If the weather is too bad for work then resurfacing will take place over the weekend 16/17 October.
11/12 October, Newmarket Road: Work will be carried out during off peak times during the day for two days to replace the worn out road surface. Temporary traffic signals will be used.
11/12 October, Cornhill and Buttermarket: Work will be carried out overnight - roads will be closed so no access available. Shops will be notified to allow for deliveries and roads will be open daytimes with possibly limited access for traffic and pedestrians.
13 October, Rougham Road: Close overnight from lorry park roundabout to Sicklesmere Road roundabout. Diversion signs in place. Work done overnight to minimise traffic disruption.
14 October, Beetons Way mini roundabout: Junction will be resurfaced overnight - unsafe to do so during the day due to high traffic and school pedestrian use.
15 October, Hollow Road: Resurfaced overnight, including mini roundabout junction with Barton Road and Eastgate Street. Hollow Road will be closed - the work has to be carried out overnight to allow the roundabout to be closed for resurfacing, Traffic disruption would be too great during the day and the volume of traffic would significantly delay completion.
18 October, Parkway for five nights: Two sections will be completed - from Westgate Street to Kings Road and then from Risbygate Street to Tayfen Road. As this is one of the busiest roads in town work needs to be done overnight. The road will be closed and diversions put in place - there will also be a temporary lifting of the weight restriction on Angel Hill.
