Independent inspectors have praised St Edmundsbury’s performance at managing its money and providing its taxpayers with good value.
The Use of Resources assessment for the 2005/2006 financial year, carried out by the Audit Commission, gave the borough council an overall rating of three out of four. The score means St Edmundsbury is ‘consistently above minimum requirements’ and is ‘performing well’.
And in one of the assessment categories, which measures the way the council manages and improves value for money, St Edmundsbury was awarded the highest rating of four. This shows the borough is ‘well above minimum standards’, and is ‘performing strongly’.
Deborah Cadman OBE, Chief Executive of St Edmundsbury, said:
“We are delighted to receive the acknowledgement that we, as a council, are managing our finances well while providing our Council Tax payers with good value for money. We have worked hard to make significant savings over the past few years without compromising the services we offer, and this positive assessment has recognised those efforts.”
