Overview and Scrutiny Committee to meet at Castle Manor Upper School, Haverhill

15 April, 2005

Students from Castle Manor Upper School in Haverhill and residents will see first hand how St Edmundsbury Borough Council ensures its services meet the needs of local people, when the next Overview and Scrutiny Committee is held at the school at 4pm on Wednesday 27 April.

The meeting is open to members of the public who are encouraged to come along to find out what the council is doing about issues that affect them, including crime and disorder, housing, business and economic development and street cleanliness. There will also be the chance to ask a question about a particular issue as part of a twenty minute question and answer session.

The committee meeting will include updates from the Haverhill Area Working Party, the Haverhill Partnership and a presentation from Castle Manor students about what they think are the main issues in Haverhill.

Prior to the meeting committee members will be given a tour of Haverhill to learn more about current projects in the town and will be shown around Castle Manor by members of the Student Council.

Madeleine Vigar, Head Teacher at CastleManorUpperSchool said:

“This is a very exciting time to be living and working in Haverhill and we are proud that our students are involved in this event.  From September 2005 our school becomes a Business and EnterpriseCollege.  This is another step forward putting excellence in learning at the centre of our community”.

Adriana Shooter, Scrutiny Manager at St Edmundsbury said:

“This is a good example of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee getting out into the community and gives people the opportunity to find out more about what it does and how they can get involved in helping to improve our services. More information about how people can do this will also be in the June issue of the council’s newsletter, Community Spirit.”

The agenda for the meeting on 27 April is available from Adriana Shooter on 01284 757613 or email Adriana.shooter@stedsbc.gov.uk you can also access it on our website (www.stedmundsbury.gov.uk) in the next week by going to A Fine Place to Live/Your Council/Councillors, Meetings and Committee Papers and clicking on Dates of Meetings.
