New car park ticket discounts - and an award

14 March, 2006

From April, regular users will be able to buy a car park season ticket for Bury St Edmunds which offers a substantial discount. The tickets will save motorists up to 40% on the daily charge. A season ticket can be bought for the three long-stay car parks – Ram Meadow, Parkway surface or the Parkway multi-storey.

Parkway multi-storey recently won an award for safety from the British Parking Association (BPA). With the police, it awards 'ParkMarks' to parking facilities that give a feeling of safety to all users (they also examine crime records). Facilities must have a patrolling regime, CCTV, staff that are trained in emergency situations, high levels of lighting, a feeling of openness, no secluded or isolated areas and informative signing, as well as being clean, safe and welcoming.

The new tickets offer flexibility to those who use the car parks and, through savings in administration costs, also help to keep Council Tax levels down. They will be for a minimum of two months – the previous minimum was one month – and can be bought from a kiosk at the Parkway multi-storey or by post from St Edmundsbury.

Season tickets will no longer be available for Prospect Row and St Andrew’s Street North, which are closest to the town centre. These spaces will then be more available to those making shorter visits than people who park all day because they work in town.
