Extensive improvement work is to start today at a popular community centre in Bury St Edmunds.
A single storey extension is being added to Westbury Community Centre by St Edmundsbury Borough Council. Modern toilets will also be installed, the buildings’ accessibility improved and a re-modelled front entrance created. New landscaping work, to the front of the centre in Oliver Road, will also take place.
Cllr Sara Mildmay-White, Deputy Council Leader and Portfolio Holder for Resources and Community Development, said:
“This work to modernise and extend this well-used centre will mean the building can be enjoyed by even more people. We are absolutely delighted to be able to carry out these improvements and look forward to the project’s completion.”
The work is costing around £125,000. The project should be complete by March.
The building, which is owned by St Edmundsbury, is well used by local people as a meeting place where clubs and community events are held.
