Work to begin on multiplex project

14 August, 2007

Construction work on Haverhill’s eagerly awaited multiplex cinema complex is due to begin next week.

The exciting multi-million pound project will see a five-screen cinema, three retail units and a drive-through built on land next to the leisure centre in Ehringshausen Way. More than 400 car parking spaces will also be created, along with environmental enhancements to improve the area.

Developer Citygrove Securities Plc, which has been working with St Edmundsbury to bring forward the project, has appointed BDB Design Build Ltd to build the complex, with work beginning on Monday, 20 August. BDB is a family firm which has pledged to keep in contact with the site’s neighbours to make sure residents are kept fully informed of progress.

Citygrove has also exchanged contracts with four retailers units. KFC has signed up to take the drive-through, Subway will fill the shop unit and Frankie & Benny’s and Prezzo will lease the remaining two outlets.

Cllr John Griffiths, Council Leader, said:

“I am delighted that construction work is to get underway on this exciting project. The people of Haverhill have repeatedly told us they want more leisure and restaurant facilities in the town, and this complex will help to answer that demand. It should also attract more visitors into Haverhill and provide another welcome boost for the local economy.”

Work on the complex, which will provide 110 new jobs, will be complete by August 2008.
