Bury Skate JAM 2010 is back bigger and better….

14 July, 2010

St Edmundsbury Borough Council and skate shop Hardcore Hobbies have teamed up again to bring the Skate JAM to Bury skate park for the third year.

Flips, stunts, scratching and street art will take centre stage at a special event organised to give young people the chance to showcase their talents. The Skate JAM is growing popularity year on year, and last year saw a crowd of over 600 people. The Skate JAM gives young people the chance to both show off their skills and try their hand at something new.

The free event is open to all ages and will take place between midday and 7pm on Sunday 18 July at the skate park, Olding Road, off Western Way, Bury St Edmunds. During the packed day designed to celebrate urban culture, graffiti artists will be creating new murals, DJs will be mixing, a dance tutor will be holding break dancing sessions. Meanwhile, on the ramps of the skate park itself, prizes will be given out to skateboarders, inline skaters and BMX riders.

Cllr Robert Everitt, portfolio holder for community, said: "The Skate JAM has strong support from across West Suffolk and every year we see amazing individual performances and new standards being set. The skate park is in great shape to welcome participants and friends and we expect this to be the best event yet."

Local specialist store Hardcore Hobbies and St Edmundsbury Borough Council have put together what has been described as " the best free family day out you will have EVER!!!"

Jay Mills from Hardcore Hobbies, said, "This event encourages youngsters of all abilities to get involved, and with this years prize mountain bigger than ever there won't be a soul taking part going home empty handed. So expect a day of "rad" bmxing and skating at the skate park JAM. All we need is a little sunshine. Bury St. Edmunds is one of the most respected free outdoor skate parks in the country and its annual event is now well known on the alternative sports circuit."
