Eagerly awaited improvement work to Haverhill Bus Station will begin on Monday 20 April. When complete, passengers will find the bus station easier to use, with an improved layout and up to the minute travel information.
The project, which will cost £200,000 and last for 16 weeks, is being managed to cause minimum disruption to users. The taxi rank will be re-located to the service road around the corner. Bus stop pick-up and drop-off points will be shifted as the work progresses, and will be well signed.
Cllr Terry Clements, St Edmundsbury Borough Council Cabinet member for Transport said,
“The bus station is a gateway to the town and it is important that it works efficiently for passengers and that it gives a good impression. As well as a complete refit, with new shelters and stands, passengers will get all their travel information displayed on electronic screens, including timetables and real time updates about their current journey. I hope that it encourages more people to use public transport and to visit Haverhill town centre”
The project has been funded by Suffolk County Council and is being delivered by St Edmundsbury Borough Council.
