When you next visit the multi-story Parkway car park in Bury St Edmunds, you may notice something different – all of the lights are even brighter than usual.
Work has recently finished on changing all of the tubing and fittings – but these are no ordinary lights. Every single one is much brighter which increases security standards and helps people to feel safer when using the car park.
Parkway car park has already won a security award, the Secured Car Parks Award for continued car crime reduction, based on the design of the building which takes into account things like lighting, CCTV surveillance and raising awareness amongst users of car security.
In addition, the lighting and fittings are also more energy efficient using ‘high frequency’ technology which will help to reduce energy use in the long term and half the cost of lighting the building. This is helping us meet our commitment to reduce carbon emissions as part of our environmental policy.
The improved lighting is a good example of St Edmundsbury working in partnership with the private sector, as part funding for the scheme has been made by Parkway Leisure Investments, developers of the multiplex leisure centre. They see the proximity of the Parkway car park as an asset to help easy parking for its customers. The parkway car park will be kept open for free parking during the evenings and the multiplex cinema is expected to open in early November 2005.
