Local historical site and visitor attraction, West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village, will be throwing open its doors on two special open days in March; Saturday 17 and Sunday 18. For these two days only there will be no entry charge for the Anglo-Saxon Village or the archaeological collections at West Stow.
Cllr Paul Farmer, St Edmundsbury’s Portfolio Holder for Arts and Culture, said:
“St Edmundsbury Borough Council is delighted to offer free entry to the Anglo-Saxon Village on these special days. I'm very pleased that the site, which is of national archaeological importance, will be available to local families and history enthusiasts alike. I hope that lots of people will take this opportunity to come along and explore not only the Anglo-Saxon Village, but also see the fascinating and recently expanded archaeological finds - for free.”
Visitors on the 17 and 18 will also meet Stowacynn, West Stow’s very own family of Anglo-Saxons, who will be wearing Anglo-Saxon costume and living in the village just as we think our ancestors would have done 1500 years ago. The Anglo-Saxon Village is set in West Stow Country Park, seven miles North West of Bury St Edmunds off the A1101, and has an adventure playground, café, shop, nature trails, lake, river and bird-hides all on site.
