Could you vote if a general election was called?

12 September, 2007

Over the last few weeks, St Edmundsbury Borough Council has sent has sent out registration forms to more than 45,000 homes to collect information so an updated list of people entitled to vote, known as the Register of Electors, can be published by 1 December.

The response so far has been good, with six out of 10 people already returning their registration details and securing their vote. If you are one of the 40 percent who has not returned a form, you should do so as soon as possible to make sure you have a vote when a general election is called.

If you do not need to make any changes to the details listed on the form for your household, you can confirm your registration 24 hours a day over the telephone or using the internet. If any details have changed, you should fill in the form and send it back. Returning the forms promptly will help St Edmundsbury save Council Taxpayers’ money as fewer reminders will need to be sent.

Anyone with any questions about their form can contact the helpline on 01284 757131 or email elections@stedsbc.gov.uk
