On Wednesday 18 April between 11am and 1pm, come along to Moyse’s Hall and find out about their new exhibition ‘Transformations’ – the changing shape of women, due to open in May.
There will be an illustrated lecture and a behind the scenes tour of what is involved in setting up a new exhibition. Members of Mabilla, a group of textile volunteers, will be on hand to explain their part in the preparation of this display. The lecture and tour costs £3.60 adults, £3.10 concessions and includes tea/coffee.
Through the ages women's costume has undergone numerous transformations. From the high waisted neo-classical statue look of Jane Austen's heroines, c.1800, through to the shoulder padded power dressing of the 1980's and all points in between, the ideal shape pursued by women and their admirers has changed dramatically. This exhibition follows the changing shape of women from 1800 - 1980 showing the way each different look was achieved and asks why women have chosen to present themselves in such an extraordinary range of shapes.
To book a place on this fascinating lecture please contact Moyse’s Hall on 01284 706183.
