Have your unwanted vehicle taken away for free

12 January, 2005

If you have an unwanted vehicle that you want to scrap, why not take advantage of a two week amnesty starting from Monday 17 January, when St Edmundsbury Borough Council will take it away for you free of charge.

Unwanted motor vehicles are an eyesore in rural and urban areas and are often a magnet for anti social behaviour.  They are often vandalised and eventually burnt out costing the community even more money to remove and clean up after recovery.

You can help with this problem.

It usually costs £41 to have someone collect an unwanted motor vehicle but St Edmundsbury, along with other west Suffolk councils, will be offering this service completely free of charge during the two week amnesty.

This is possible as a result of funding from the Western Suffolk Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership. The initiative is part of a nationwide campaign launched by EnCams, the charity that runs the Keep Britain Tidy Campaign.

The amnesty starts on Monday 17 January for two weeks only. To have your unwanted vehicle removed simply call in person at the Borough offices on Angel Hill, Western Way office in Bury St Edmunds or at Lower Downs Slade Haverhill and fill in a form. Or contact the Abandoned Vehicles Office at St Edmundsbury Borough Council on 01284 757325 or email david.curtis@stedsbc.gov.uk. Arrangements will then be made for your vehicle to be removed.
