Improved cycle route for Newmarket Road, Bury St Edmunds

11 October, 2004

Work started today (Monday 11 October) on extending the Newmarket Road cycle path in Bury St Edmunds as part of a programme of improvements to pedestrian safety, including phased signals and pedestrian refuges at the junction of Newmarket Road, Western Way and Dettingen Way.

The cycle path will be extended from Blenheim Camp Territorial Army Centre access road to Bennett Avenue and will affect the following on Newmarket Road:

18-29 October: work starts opposite Music Sales

1-26 November: work starts opposite HR Owen and Glasswells

29 November-10 December: work starts opposite the Beckett Group

It is anticipated that work will be finished by Christmas. Pedestrian access to properties will be maintained at all times. Residents and businesses will be contacted if vehicle access is likely to be restricted whilst work is carried out.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused during this time and thank you for your patience.
