Great Saxham children will be enjoying brand new play equipment for the first time, at a shared picnic for the village between 3 and 5pm on Saturday 14 June 2008.
The playing field at Great Saxham had previously offered only a set of swings. Now, thanks to hard work by local fund raisers and generous support by local organisations, children can also enjoy toddler swings and a low level timber adventure trail.
Villagers have spent the last two years holding fetes and coffee mornings to raise £2000 towards the total cost of £8000. St Edmundsbury Borough Council gave £3000 from the Rural Areas Initiatives Fund and Cllr Terry Clements gave £2000 from his County Council Locality Budget. The remaining £1000 came from Havebury Housing Partnership, from their Community Investment Fund.
Cllr Sara Mildmay-White, St Edmundsbury Borough Council Cabinet member for Community said,
"I congratulate the project leaders on attracting a variety of local funding for this imaginative play scheme. I am sure that this play area will give great pleasure to many children for years to come."
