Aging pay and display machines in Haverhill’s car parks have been replaced with new easy-to-use models thanks to a £100,000 investment by St Edmundsbury.
Contractors working on behalf of the borough council spent last week removing the existing 14-year-old machines and putting in new models. In total, 14 new machines have been installed, at the council’s car parks in Lower Downs Slade, Ehringshausen Way, Haverhill Leisure Centre and the Town Hall.
The new machines have been funded by money raised from car park charges and are resistant to vandalism and graffiti. They are the first to be installed in the borough – work is due to take place in Bury St Edmunds’ car parks later this year.
Cllr Terry Clements, St Edmundsbury’s Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning, said:
“These new machines are a massive improvement on the ones which were in place and represent a huge investment in the town. It’s great that the people of Haverhill will be the first in the borough to try out these high-tech machines, which are easy-to-use and will make life for motorists much more convenient.”
